“Huge” Clitoris?

The Question

“I’m embarrassed by what feels like a “huge” clitoris; there’s a lot of tissue around the area. What can be done? The area is also highly sensitive.”

The Answer

Thank you for your question. I want to start by saying that what you’re experiencing is more common than you might think – and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Seeking answers is always the right step.

I want to start by offering an important clinical observation: based on your photos, what you’re describing does not appear to be clitoromegaly, or an enlarged clitoris. What I’m actually seeing is excess skin of the clitoral hood, specifically the lateral prepuce, along with the appearance of the labia. The clitoris itself appears to be within normal range.

This distinction matters, because the solution would be quite different. Excess clitoral hood skin is very commonly addressed through a procedure called a clitoral hood reduction – also called a hoodectomy or prepuceplasty – which removes the excess lateral hood tissue to give a neater, more-proportionate appearance. This is frequently performed alongside labiaplasty and is a minimally-invasive, in-office procedure.

The easy orgasmic response you describe is also completely normal. In fact, it may be partly because the clitoral tissue is less covered or more exposed than average, which can increase sensitivity. That is not something to be concerned about.

I’d encourage you to consult with a surgeon who specializes in this area and can evaluate your anatomy in person or online via TeleHealth to give you a precise recommendation.

Other Questions

Clitoral Hood Reduction, Protruding & Extra Sensitivity

"I’m interested in getting labiaplasty along with clitoral hood reduction, but my main concern is the clitoral hood and my clitoris. My clitoral hood and my clitoris are both kind of big and I’m afraid that reducing the size of the hood might make my clitoris look protruded and become more sensitive."

Labiaplasty & Asymmetry

"I've been bothered by the appearance of my right inner labia since puberty. I'm wondering how well a labiaplasty would work with making the left and right sides match better. Is it acheiveable to get the right side into a similar shape to the left without operating on both sides?"

The “Right” Number of ThermiVa Treatments

"Can I do more than three ThermiVa treatments? Would the results be better if I asked my practitioner to turn the device to a higher temperature? I would like to see tightening to my labia majora."

Hymen “Damaged” During Cervical Cancer Screening

"In my culture, it's important that my hymen be intact until I am married. During a cervical cancer screening, I noticed bleeding - and now I'm very concerned that my hymen may have broken or torn. Can it be fixed?"

Loose Skin Between Vaginal Opening & Anus

"I have had an issue with my intimate anatomy that has been bothering me for over 20 years. Between my vaginal and anus, I have bunched up skin. It makes staying clean more difficult and is embarrassing. Can it be removed?"
