Is it “Botched” Labiaplasty or is this Normal?

The Question

“I had labiaplasty done by my local plastic surgeon – and I do not like the results. I feel like the edges of my skin are bumpy and uneven. Can this be fixed? My surgeon says ‘no’.”

The Answer

Thank you for your question – and for the opportunity to advocate for patients like you.

First: It is not entirely uncommon for patients to notice small areas of residual or uneven tissue after labiaplasty once the swelling has completely resolved. In some cases, a small “lump” or fold can represent scar tissue, remaining labial tissue or natural asymmetry that becomes more noticeable after surgery.

Depending on the cause, there are options to improve the contour. A minor revision procedure can sometimes be performed to carefully reshape or remove the small amount of excess tissue and create a smoother appearance.

Your surgeon may have expressed concern because additional surgery in this area does carry some risks, particularly if there is limited tissue remaining or if the area is close to sensitive structures. However, these risks can be meaningfully mitigated if the revision is performed by a specialist.

As a board-certified labiaplasty surgeon, a significant amount of my work is in the botched-labiaplasty category – and the most prevalent commonality among these cases is that a plastic surgeon, not a labiaplasty surgeon, performed the original procedure.

If the appearance continues to bother you, I urge you to seek a consultation with a surgeon who doesn’t just “do” labiaplasty procedures but has successfully performed thousands of them.

An examination can determine whether the area represents scar tissue, residual tissue or normal healing and whether a small revision could safely improve the contour.

I wish you the best!

Effects of Androgens

"After using androgens, my clitoris has become too large and looks like a small penis. I started treatment for vaginal laxity. Help!"
