What are Anal Skin Tags?
Skin tags on the anus, usually caused by anal fissures and hemorrhoids, are small flaps of skin usually found around the rim of the entrance to the rectum. And, while these growths are benign, they can be uncomfortable – and annoying. Many patients share that the tags are embarrassing, can itch and make it more difficult to get – and stay – clean. Sometimes, in an attempt to wipe away stool after using the restroom, a patient’s anal tags will pull and bleed.
Questions About Anal Skin Tags
Does anal skin tag removal hurt?
The process is simple and quick. At Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles, we’ll use our specialty topical numbing agent prior to your procedure and we’ll ensure you’re fully numb before we begin the minimally-invasive laser removal.
Does Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles remove hemorrhoids?
We’re happy to meet with you for a consultation to help you determine if you have hemorrhoids or anal skin tags. Should you require treatment for hemorrhoids, we’ll refer you to the proper specialist. Once your hemorrhoids are treated, the skin tags that remain can be safely and gently removed in our office.
Is there downtime after anal tag removal?
Recovery after most anal tag removals is quick – you may return to work in just two to three days after your procedure and most patients do not require any pain medication beyond an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory like Motrin. Frequent icing of the treatment area can also relieve any discomfort. Patients are encouraged to keep the area clean; practice good toileting hygiene; and refrain from strenuous activities that target the area – like biking and horseback riding – for eight weeks.
Is there a way to prevent anal tags from reforming after my surgery?
Yes! During your consultation, we’ll review the likely causes of your anal tags – and how to prevent them from reforming in the future. While every patient is different, most can benefit from improving their water and fiber consumption; reducing their time on the toilet (This is not the time to scroll on your phone!); and using a product like our Wonderful Wipes after stooling to keep the area clean and moisturized.
