Confidential Hymenoplasty in Los Angeles

The all-female staff at the Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles understands that, in some cultures and religions, an intact hymen is important for a woman. We also know that women who have never been sexually active can have a broken, torn or damaged hymen from exercise, tampon use or just from normal hormonal changes in the female body. The hymen is a stretchy, thin tissue that – as a female ages – bends back into the vaginal canal and can be difficult to feel or see because it wears over time. Most women’s hymen change from an annular (donut) shape to a less-obvious crescent shape as they enter puberty and beyond.

Hymenoplasty is a procedure that repairs a broken, torn or damaged hymen. Because it is requested by some women, couples or families for cultural or religious reasons, Dr. Poucher and her all-women medical team will reassure patients interested in Hymenoplasty that the entire process is completely confidential and private.

Hymenal tissue is very delicate. Often, small pieces of this delicate tissue is all that remains once it has been ruptured. Because of this, it takes very skilled and experienced hands to rebuild or repair a hymen. Dr. Poucher is an expert and has performed many hymenoplasty procedures.

The hymenoplasty procedure at the Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles is performed in-office with local anesthetic. The procedure is comfortable and generally lasts 30 minutes.

Treatment for fear of first intercourse or pain with sex and/or insertion of a tampon can be due to the position of unruptured hymen tissue or due to the presence of hymenal remnants (tags). At Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles, we perform a complete exam and if the exam reveals hymen tags, vaginal bands, or an intact/partially intact hymen, we have the expertise to offer Hymenectomy and hymen tag removal.

With a Hymenectomy, the intact hymen tissue is carefully opened and expertly sutured to allow for the release of tight, painful banded tissue. This quick in-office procedure is done with local anesthetic, and recovery is swift and easy.

Women who suffer from tissue dangling from inside their vagina can relieve their discomfort with hymen tag removal, where prolapsed hymen tags are removed with precision during an in-office procedure. Local anesthesia is used and downtime is minimal.

Because hymen tissue is quite delicate, it’s best to allow the restored hymen to heal for six weeks prior to major activity – including intercourse. However, Dr. Poucher has had many successful urgent hymenoplasty cases that have healed within two weeks using rapid-absorbing stitches. Following the procedure, patients are encouraged to abstain from inserting anything into the vagina until ready to have the hymen broken.
