“Huge” Clitoris?

The Question

“I’m embarrassed by what feels like a “huge” clitoris; there’s a lot of tissue around the area. What can be done? The area is also highly sensitive.”

The Answer

Thank you for your question. I want to start by saying that what you’re experiencing is more common than you might think – and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Seeking answers is always the right step.

I want to start by offering an important clinical observation: based on your photos, what you’re describing does not appear to be clitoromegaly, or an enlarged clitoris. What I’m actually seeing is excess skin of the clitoral hood, specifically the lateral prepuce, along with the appearance of the labia. The clitoris itself appears to be within normal range.

This distinction matters, because the solution would be quite different. Excess clitoral hood skin is very commonly addressed through a procedure called a clitoral hood reduction – also called a hoodectomy or prepuceplasty – which removes the excess lateral hood tissue to give a neater, more-proportionate appearance. This is frequently performed alongside labiaplasty and is a minimally-invasive, in-office procedure.

The easy orgasmic response you describe is also completely normal. In fact, it may be partly because the clitoral tissue is less covered or more exposed than average, which can increase sensitivity. That is not something to be concerned about.

I’d encourage you to consult with a surgeon who specializes in this area and can evaluate your anatomy in person or online via TeleHealth to give you a precise recommendation.

Other Questions

Labiaplasty for Comfort & Confidence During Sexual Intercourse

“During sex with my partner, I feel like my inner labia skin gets ‘pulled’ into my vagina when he penetrates me. My labia occasionally chafe or even bleed during exercise, too. I feel like my labia majora are loose and ‘flappy’ and now there is vaginal gaping when we have intercourse, too. Is there a surgical solution to this discomfort?”

Trim vs. Wedge Technique for Labiaplasty

“I’ve done a lot of research regarding labiaplasty and I’m confident that the wedge technique is most aligned with the surgical outcomes I hope to achieve. However, the plastic surgeon near me insists that a trim technique is better. What should I do? Can I request the wedge technique?”

Improving Labial Asymmetry with Labiaplasty

“I am frustrated that my gynecologist won’t refer me for labiaplasty. I’m 19 and my right labia lip is bigger than the other and ‘curls.’ How can I make this less obvious?”

Restore the Vagina with Perineoplasty

“I have had three vaginal births. How can I ‘fix’ my vaginal opening? It looks ‘meaty’ and my urethra now shows. If I do have surgery, what is recovery like? I have three kids at home who require my near-constant attention.”
