Thank you for your thoughtful question! It’s clear you’ve done your research – and I love that you’re going into this with both comfort and aesthetic goals in mind. Let me share some guidance, though I want to note that a true recommendation on technique always requires a private online TeleHealth or in-person consultation.

Based on what you’ve described – smaller labia majora, a desire for a tucked and smooth result and primary motivation of physical discomfort – you are a good candidate for labiaplasty… and the combination with a clitoral hood reduction (CHR) can enhance the overall aesthetic harmony of the result.

Regarding technique: the trim, or linear, method removes tissue along the full length of the labia minora. The traditional wedge method preserves the natural edge of the labia but removes a V-shaped section of tissue from the interior.

It’s important to note that the labiaplasty “trim” surgical technique has the advantage of removing dark-skin edges but comes with a risk of retraction and limited shortening. The modified wedge, on the other hand, allows for a more clean, more seamless appearance and greater reduction of excess skin while preserving the natural skin edge.

At Labiaplasty Center of Los Angeles, I perform labiaplasty using both methods based on patients’ desired goals and specific anatomy. Most frequently, I use the modified wedge technique I perfected over thousands of surgeries for the majority of patients because it’s generally the right choice for their anatomy. A CHR performed at the same time can create a cohesive, balanced result by reducing any excess hood skin that might remain prominent after labiaplasty.

The most important thing is to have this conversation in detail with an experienced labiaplasty surgeon before your procedure so that your goals are clearly understood and the technique is chosen with your anatomy in mind.
